Photo Friday - 'Familiar Faces'

Would you like to play a game??
This is a sign that I drive by nearly every day. It is attached to Lee's Video Library in Anderson, Indiana. Lee's was a locally owned video store. They were another victim of the changing face of entertainment consumption here in the USA. They closed their doors in 2007/08 and the building is still for sale. I got worried that some other business would buy the property and tear down this hand-painted sign that has been there for as long as I can remember.

By my count, there are twenty-one characters featured on the sign.

Back in 2008, I posted this on Flickr and made a bit of a game of it, asking contacts to identify the characters, actors and films portrayed.

Collectively, I think we came up with most of them:

Approximately from left to right (top to bottom):

1. Sylvester Stallone; John J. Rambo; Rambo: First Blood Part II
2. Bela Lugosi; Count Dracula; Dracula
3. Clint Eastwood; The Man With No Name/"Joe"/"Blondie"; A Fistful of Dollars
4. Charles Bronson; Paul Kersey; Death Wish?
5. Clark Gable; Rhett Butler; Gone With The Wind
6. Charles Fleischer (voice); Roger Rabbit; Who Framed Roger Rabbit
7. Ray Bolger?; The Scarecrow?; The Wizard of Oz (1939)?
8. Elizabeth Taylor; Cleopatra; Cleopatra
9. Leonard Nimoy; Mr. Spock; Star Trek (various)
10. Humphrey Bogart; Charlie Allnut; The African Queen
11. Katharine Hepburn, Rose Sayer, The African Queen?
12. William Shatner, Admiral James T. Kirk, Star Trek: The Motion Picture
13. Marilyn Monroe; The Girl; The Seven Year Itch?
14. Christopher Reeve; Superman; Superman (1978)
15. Charlie Chaplin; The Little Tramp; difficult to identify a specific film here -- there were so many with this exact character
16. John Wayne; very difficult to identify a specific character or film on this one.
17. Ginger Rogers; Dale Tremont; Top Hat
18. Fred Astaire, Jerry Travers, Top Hat
19. Robert Redford, The Sundance Kid, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
20. Paul Newman, Butch Cassidy, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
21. Jack Haley; The Tin Woodsman; The Wizard of Oz (1939)

SPC - Mini/Many - #1

ReleaseThe new challenge theme for the month of February at Self Portrait Challenge is:  Many/Mini.  Either/or/both.

I don't know if 28 counts as "many" in many things, but I think in terms of rubber band shooters manufactured for a 5th grader's "entrepreneur day" at school, it ought to count.

If not -- fine.

It took "many" attempts to get a legit shot of the rubber band in flight close enough to the release to be reasonably in focus.

So there.

Now that I'm done with my Monochrome 52 project, I'm going to try to get back on the 'Photo Friday' wagon.

Time's Up!

Time's Up!

52/52 for Monochrome 52

This is my final "official" photo for the Monochrome 52 project over on Google .

I started the project, as you might expect, about one year ago. One monochrome shot per week taken and posted.

Generally, I have enjoyed the exercise, but I don't have plans to continue on into year 2.

I have always liked the look of monochrome/black and white for certain photos and I expect that will not change.

I will continue to process and post monochrome images, but not in conjunction with this particular project or on any self-imposed deadline.

SPC - 'Flashback 2012' - #5

Five Tuesdays in January means five weeks on the 'Flashback 2012' theme.

Since (in my own mind, at least) I completed the eleven (or so) new themes from 2012 in four weeks, I considered taking a week off, but I don't think I've missed a week of SPC since we switched to Flickr in 2008, so I figured, why start now?
